Update on Song of Redemption

Dear Faithful Readers,

I had previously stated that the fifth and final book of The Gamayun Prophecies would be released in November.  It’s now December, so you’re probably wondering what’s up.  I wanted to fill you in on why there is a delay.

While delays in publication are not uncommon, please know I do take them seriously.  As an avid reader myself, I know how frustrating they are.  No less than three times this year, a favorite author of mine was supposed to release the next book in a series only to have the publication date pushed back six months or more.  Each time they got an audible groan from me. It stinks; I get it.

So why the delay? Well, some of it is good.  First off, this book is much longer than the previous ones.  I considered splitting it into two books, but they would have been a little bit shorter than normal.  In the end, it seemed fairer to only make you pay for one really long book than for two slim novels.  The book is already longer than all the previous books, and it’s only about two-thirds written. I knew it would be longer, which is why I allotted a bit more time for myself to finish this one that previous books.

However, even with a couple extra months, you will note it is still not finished.  That brings us to the bad news part of the delay.  I have a genetic disorder that affects the joints and muscles of my body.  Without getting into the medical mumbo jumbo, the way it plays out is I often have migraines.  I can go a few months with just one here or there, but then I can get in a cycle where I will have one every day for six months.  On top of this, I have been experiencing some new symptoms where I have been having frequent nerve pain in my legs and arms, made worse by sitting long periods of time or repetitive motion (i.e. typing). As this genetic disorder has no cure, and very few treatments that even help the symptoms, often when I am having trouble I simply have to wait it out and rest. Eventually my body will calm down some and I can write again.  After I finished writing Flight of Hope in June, I made a good start on Song of Redemption. However, I was hit with a cycle of migraines in the beginning of August that still hasn’t let up. The nerve pain started in October.  I am still waiting for my body to cooperate with me.

A little more good news: when I feel good, I write like a speed demon.  While the original plan was to get all five novels of the series published in one calendar year, I still managed to publish four novels in one year.  Generally that only happens with formulaic books like the Babysitters’ Club, but I tried to provide you with original books with well drawn characters and surprises around every corner. That was because for the first four books I had a lot of days I felt good.

While I hope you understand now why there is a delay, I imagine you would still like a new release date.  I would very much like to give you one.  However, if I’m being honest with you, I can’t.  I can guess at one, but I don’t want to get your hopes up only to be wrong again. Please know I am 100% dedicated to finishing Galine and Sasha’s story and finishing it well.  However, I just don’t know how long it will take for my body to sort itself out. What I can promise is to update you on how the process is going.

As I stated before, I have written about two thirds of it at this point. I will post another update when I have finished writing it.  At that point I will have to take about another month for editing.  Then I send it to my editor and cover designer, and I have to do formatting for publication.  That usually takes about another six weeks.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Lara S. Chase

Flight of Hope Releases Thursday!

flightofhopecompressed

I know, I’ve made you wait longer than normal for both news of the next book, and for the book itself.  I’ve been working like a madwomen to get it out in June as promised, and I’m just squeaking it in.  The fourth book in The Gamayun Prophecies, Flight of Hope, will be released this Thursday June 30.

Stay tuned for an excerpt from the book, and links to where to get your copy.

Make Overs!

In Crown of Sacrifice, our main characters are in hiding, which meant they had to alter their appearances. No more cashmere and silk for Alex and Harper.  Sasha had to give up Levi’s for the first time in over a century.  Galine finally got to wear something besides scrubs, and Kat found out she could annoy her sister with just a few wardrobe changes.  I’ve put together another Pinterest board so you can see the before and after of their transformations.

Free Stuff!

Well folks, I released a new book this week, and you know what that means–free stuff! Like with the release of Wings of Ash, the goodies will be threefold. First off, I have once again made the first ebook in The Gamayun Prophecies, Call of Affliction, completely free.  Even better, this time it’s permanently free.  Yep, you read that right.  Not for a limited time, forever. Plus, this time you can get it wherever you like to buy your books, not just Amazon.  However, a note to International readers:  Amazon doesn’t really want you to ever make your book permanently free, so they make it very difficult to do so.  I was able to wrangle them into making it free on the US site, but not on their international sites.  So, if you’d like a copy and you have a Kindle, I’d suggest getting it from Smashwords, which will let you have a free mobi (Kindle format) version.  If you don’t have an e-reader at all, you can still download a PDF of the book at Smashwords or at Goodreads.  It’s a great way to try the series without having to pay a cent.  Or, if you have a skeptical friend you’ve been trying to get to read it, now they have no excuse either 🙂

Secondly, I will once again being doing a Goodreads giveaway for Crown of Sacrifice. That will start April 6 and run for a month.  You can enter for a chance to win one of ten signed paperback copies. I’ll post a link on the website as soon as it is live.

Finally, for all of you on my mailing list, instead of just giving away free copies to a few of you, I decided this time you should all get something.  So, if you are currently on my mailing list, or if you sign up before April 15, I’ll send you some coupon codes so you can get 50% off either Wings of Ash or Crown of Sacrifice at Smashwords.

Enjoy the free!

Crown of Sacrifice Cover Reveal & Release Date

It’s March, and you know what that means–book three of The Gamayun Prophecies is coming out.  Crown of Sacrifice will be released Monday March 28.  I hope to have all the pre-order links ready for you in a few days time.  Now that I’m offering the ebooks at multiple retailers, they tend to appear at different times.  Once I have them all, I’ll post them here.  Once again, the paperback will only be at Amazon to keep the price low.

Resplendent Media provided me another gorgeous cover.  This time no boys, just the ladies dukin’ it out.  This book finds Galine and Sera going head-to-head, so I thought it only fitting that they should get the cover.  We also get some new locales as the action moves beyond North Carolina and New York to Chicago and a yacht in the Caribbean Sea. For a full description of the book, read below.  A spoiler warning, though.  If you haven’t yet finished reading Wings of Ash, it might have more info that you want.

Galine thought she’d have some time to collect herself and heal after Sasha put a hole in Sirin’s chest. While she knew her immortal enemy wasn’t gone for good, she had hoped to at least take a breather. But before Sirin even makes it to her sickbed, Sera takes up her mother’s quest to hunt down the Gamayun. Sera isn’t just after Galine, though, but is furious that her brother Alex has joined the Gamayun’s cause. She’s determined to return him to the fold before their mother wakes up and demands retribution for Alex’s betrayal.

Sera isn’t Galine’s only problem, though. She still doesn’t know where Sirin’s demon hawks are taking the souls they steal. In order to find out, they must split up—Galine and Sasha heading to Chicago and Harper, Alex, and Katja to Brazil. Each journey brings danger, but Galine’s allies could be their own worst enemies. What does Sasha know about Sera he’s not telling? Will Katja ever forgive Galine? Why has Harper grown so distant from Alex?

The mystery, action, and romance of the The Gamayun Prophecies continues in this third book of the series.

Ebooks Now Available on iBooks, B&N and more!

I am pleased to announce that Call of Affliction and Wings of Ash are now available at a number of different bookstores, not just Amazon. I’m now distributing the ebooks with Smashwords, which means they are available at Smashwords, iBooks, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Scribd, Inkterra, and several library distributors. That doesn’t mean your library will automatically have it as they still have to purchase it, but it is available to them, and you can certainly suggest they purchase it. 🙂  I hope to also eventually offer them through Google Play, but they are going through some sort of transition and are not allowing any new authors or publishers at the moment.

So, if you have an e-reader other than an Kindle and have been wanting to purchase one of the books of The Gamayun Prophecies, now you can.  Or if you’re just anti-Amazon (no judgment). The paperbacks will still only be available at Amazon.  I thought long and hard about this.  I could distribute them to Barnes & Noble and other booksellers, but it would mean raising the price by $4 a book, and I didn’t want to do that to my readers.

If you would like the direct links to buy the books at these retailers, check my updated Books page.
